Ok for this blog I’m goin to talk about the f(x) an g(x) things, I forgot what they called an I left my notebook at school, but you’ll see what I’m talking about.
This is really simple, its just the notation that messes people up. All you are doing is plugging in the values, so lets start easy.
f(x) = 3 and g(x) = 6
1) f(x) – g(x) just plug in……. 3 – 6 = -3
-see, easy…
2) f(x) / g(x) 3 / 6 = 1 / 2
-Now let’s try to get a little more into it being we got the basics down. An important thing to remember with this is to look at it as a breakdown, tear it apart so its easier to understand:
f(g(x)) looks stupid hard, but all it means is plug the g(x) equation into the f(x) equation, and its just vice versa for g(f(x)). And if a curveball is thrown in like f(g(x)) – g(x), all it means is that you’re pluggin in and then subtracting the g(x) equation….lets do some examples:
f(x) = x – 2 and g(x) = 3x
f(g(x)) (3x) – 2 now solve for x and you get x = 2 / 3
g(f(x)) 3(x – 2) = 3x – 6 solve for x and get x = 2
g(f(x)) – g(x) 3(x – 2) – 3x = 3x – 6 – 3x…….x’s cancel so that means that x = 0
Hope this helped somebody because it looks extremely hard when you look at the notation but it really isn’t that bad, PEACE!!!!!!
