this week we learned about limits at infinity.
there are of courses steps to follow pertaining
to this concept.
here are the steps:
-if it is a fraction there are three rules
to remember:
1. if the degree of the bottom and the top
equal 0 you divde the two coefficients
for an answer.
2. if the degree of the top is
greater than the degree of the bottom
then the answer will be plus or minus
infinity. you will have to plug in large
values of ten into the tablein order to
find out if it is either negative or positive.
3. if the degree of the top is less than the
degree of the bottom than the answer is zero.
- if it is not a fraction use a table to solve.
plug in 100, 1000, 10,000 until a pattern
is visiable.
Here is an example applying these rules:
lim 2x+5/ 3x^2=0
x--> infinity
--zero is the answer beause the top degree is
less than the bottom.
here is another example from the
study guide:
lim 5x-3/ -3x+5= -5/3
x-->infinity
- in this case the degrees are the same
so you would divide the coefficients.
see everyone tomorrow.
